THE JONI SESSIONS

A project I’ve been working on to cover one song from each of Joni Mitchell’s studio albums. I was inspired by David Yaffe’s beautiful reflection of Joni in his recent book “Reckless Daughter”. I’m working through her body of work as I work through the book. Enjoy!

songwriting

I have been infatuated with writing music since I was very little. I was always curious, and excited to hear new melodies. I tried a whole lot of different instruments, and fell in love with so many different styles/genres of music. Into my adulthood, I became particularly interested in the folk/folk rock movement of the 1960s and 70s, and began playing a lot of that style. That era ignited something in me; I was completely struck by its intricate and beautiful poetry. (Particularly Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Leonard Cohen.)

I began my own songwriting journey rather recently, and it has been truly wonderful to share my musical ideas. I was very honored to have worked with some insanely talented folk in my university’s theatre/musical theatre program where I debuted some of my work. I hope to continue composing, specifically in the vein of folk operas/singer-songwriter musical theatre throughout my career. Enjoy!
