Lauren (they/them) I’m a musician and theatre artist based in Washington, DC, originally from Northern New Jersey. I’m really interested in new works, folk music in musical theatre, and the actor-muso track. As a multi-instrumentalist, I love working my instruments into roles that are not traditionally music-making. In the last few years, I’ve worked on this onstage musician skill in roles like Philoclea in Head Over Heels with Monumental Theatre Company (2020), and Hero in Much Ado About Nothing with the Prince George’s Country Shakespeare in the Parks (2019). I’m also well-versed in children’s theatre, performing both in-person and virtually at Imagination Stage in The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe (2019-20), and Adventure Theatre MTC in online new works festivals during the pandemic (2020-2021).
I am interested in the use of folk music in musical theatre and hope to create works with this in mind. I've been very inspired by works such as Hadestown and Shaina Taub's adaptations with Public Works, most prominently As You Like It. I hope to continue exploring the convergence of folk music and musical theatre practices; how do we bridge the gap between a concert and theatre, while keeping the authenticity of both?
